“Marketing is not just about talking to your customers, it is also critical that we listen to them”.
Listening in marketing is to re-learn how to talk to them.
Back in April in Boston, a gentleman came to our booth at SCA and was all praise about Ecotact Bags. He also was impressed by one of our product accessories - a simple ‘ no hooks’ sticker that we share with our orders so that the bags are handled well and produce kept safe.
Jay Kling mentioned that he was a fan of the no hooks design ( the design is my personal favorite too; has a devil image and the copy reads “Dont let the evil destroy the goodness” )
Jay asked for a no hooks tshirt among the merchandise kept at the booth and we didn't have it. In fact we never thought of designing them, we never knew that they were popular.
We got back from Boston and into our routine life when I received an email from Jay that the ‘ hook man’ has a lot of fans and it would be a great idea to design them. He even offered to help to make this happen.
Inspired from Jay’s suggestion, we went ahead to design these new tshirts. After a month of planning the design and printing, we were able to produce the ‘ hook man’ tshirts.
We shipped some tshirts from our HQ in Delhi, India to Jay who has a coffee roasting business in New York, as a thank you gesture for this wonderful idea.
Yesterday he sent us pictures wearing them and also mentioned that him and his team loved the design!
The tshirts will now also be made available for purchase on our website.
A big thank you to Jay for acting as a brand evangelist and bringing the unnoticed to our notice!
Marketing is a tool to create bond between the brand and the consumers.
It is a two way street, keep your ears open.
