Making people fall in love with Maggi all over again
Nestle is still trying to rebuild brand Maggi after the entire lead/MSG fiasco. If I were in charge of brand Maggi there is 1 marketing campaign which I would definitely execute to make people fall in love with the product all over again.
Co creation - Crowd Sourcing Maggi recipes
Like every marketing campaign the insight behind this one for me was:
"There are hundreds of ways in which Maggi is made across the country, be it homes, food stalls or college canteens but an average person would only know a couple of ways of enjoying Maggi. What if I give that person multiple options of cooking his/her favourite snack? Wouldn't it result in more consumption on every occasion, increased number of consumption occasions and newer consumers buying into the brand?”
Due to the limitation of ways in which one can make Maggi many a times people wouldn't be eating Maggi for substantial time frames because
-their taste buds are bored
-they found some other noodle brand during the whole Lead/MSG fiasco
-they like Maggi's taste but don't love it and hence don't consume it that often
-they don't serve it to guests or during some informal house parties thinking it is not that savoury an experience
In such a scenario I would introduce a campaign wherein people across the country are encouraged to share their Maggi recipes and stand a chance to be on the
- Maggi Retail packet
- Maggi Print Advertisement
- Maggi YouTube channel
- Maggi Facebook Page
- Any other relevant medium
Ideas can be sourced through all forms of media be it TV, print, radio, Facebook, Quora, etc.
For e.g. when I was conducting a bit of research for this article I found out a question on Quora which asked people about innovative hacks of making Maggi tastier; a link of which can be seen here.
So far the top ranked answer has raked in more than 1.87 Lac views in just 3 days of being posted on Quora which clearly goes on to show how much interest an informal question about Maggi generates with no media spend and no incentivization of the customer at all. Just imagine the kind of Buzz it could generate if it had money invested behind it in multiple media channels and also incentivized the best creators in some way
The benefits of such a campaign can be multi-fold some of which are listed below:
- Sales increase by bringing new customers into the fold or making existing customers consume more both of which can be tackled by such a marketing strategy
- It gives new ways for die hard Maggi fans to have more of their beloved snack
- It gives people who have deserted the brand more reasons to come back to it and start the relationship anew
- It would bring new customers interested by the entire campaign to try on the brand for the first time
- People generally consume a tastier snack more often and hence this would increase the frequency of consumption
These are basically some benefits which come to the top of my mind of running such a campaign. I am sure there would be more such advantages and that such a campaign can really reignite the passion for Maggi and make people fall in love with it all over again
So this is my idea of making Maggi yet again attain top of the mind recall among consumers
